About Me

Hello, my name is Daniel Montoya. I am self-represented artist and creative graphic designer living and working in Brooklyn, New York.

My main interests is two-dimensional media such as painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, collage, photography, creative graphic design, and digital art.

Since I was a child I have lived, breathed, and have been surrounded by art. I was born in Madrid, Spain and raised in the picturesque city of Segovia, Spain. My father Manuel Montoya (1938-2009) was a late 20th century Spanish realist painter.  In addition, my mother, brother, and my wife Soraya Marcano are visual artists.

At an early age I remember looking at art books, walking around the house trying to identify titles of art reproductions I saw hanging on the wall, and observing while a still-life was being painted. From the inception I gained a love and appreciation for art and art history which has inspired my work.

In the 80s my family moved to Brooklyn, New York (my mother's hometown). In 1992, I obtained a B.A. in Art History from Tufts University, (Medford) MA. At the same time, I pursued my art studies at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where I explored Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. I later completed a Master's degree in Art History from Williams College, MA in 1994 with a concentration in Printmaking. While attending Graduate School I started a series of graphite pencil drawings and began to consider pursuing art full-time.

In 1994, I attended Pratt Institute School of Art & Design in Brooklyn, New York where I would further my interest in Printmaking and its various forms (Intaglio, Linocut, Aquatint, Etching and Serigraphy (silkscreen).

My work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has been sold to  numerous private collections.
